Here is a close up of a side of the Dunlin platform taken in 2002. Today the platform is being lined up for decommissioning having ceased to produce back in 2014 (I think) but had continued to pipe oil onwards from the field. It has a concrete base, and the whole weighs over 300,000 tons, giving those faced with the dismantling activity a few problems.

These platforms built i the 1970s were all slotted together in small pieces once the jacket had been floated out and was in place. The heavy lift ships could not really lift very heavy lifts. The phot was take by a ship to illustrate the problems faced by PSVs from overside discharges. It is probable that despite the passing of time they are still faced with the same problems.

Photo taken in 2002 and posted here on 2nd May 2018.
