Subsea 7 vessels have featured on this site a few times, probably because they are such unusual vessels, particularly these flexible pipelayers, which we would have though to be impossible in days gone by. This one, the Seven Phoenix was built in 2002 and so is one of the earlier ships of the type, and it can be seen that the pipelay tower is projected over the port side. These towers are designed to be capable of a certain loading and this one is 310 tons. It is a DPII ship kept in position by multiple thrusters. I'm not sure whether there are any operating anywhere else in the world, other than the Campos Basin.

This one was photographed by Jan Plug in Brazilian waters a couple of days ago, and posted here on 6th February 2018.
