When Maritime Engineering unveiled the ME303 the OSV anoraks in Aberdeen were amazed by the sheer size of the vessel, which at the time exceeded that of any other anchor-handler available at the time. The first might have been the Barra Supplier which entered service in 1984, having been constructed in Germany, later the Olympic Supplier, followed closely by the Seaforth Crusader and Centurion and then by the Star Orion. These were all British companies (those were the days!).
